ClimateSmart Home Service Program
The Queensland Government's ClimateSmart Home Service program commenced on 5 January 2009. The program aims to provide services to 260,000 households across Queensland, over two years.
The program involves a licensed electrician visiting homes and performing an energy efficiency service. This includes installation of a wireless energy monitor; up to 15 free energy efficient light globes supplied and installed; where suitable, a free water and energy efficient showerhead supplied and installed; an energy audit; a customised energy and water efficiency plan sent to the householder, and access to My Climatesmart Home, a customised resource for more energy and water savings.
A service like this would normally cost over $450, but residents pay just $50. Residents undertaking the service can save up to $250 a year in energy and water bills, and a total of up to 20.4 tonnes of greenhouse gases. Full details of the service including eligibility requirements and terms and conditions, and an online booking form, are available on the program website at www.climatesmarthome.com or call 13 20 40.
